Senior Product Manager (Editorial Tools)

Job Introduction

Trinity Mirror is looking for an experienced product manager to lead the development of creative, intelligent, versatile publishing tools that empower Trinity Mirror editorial teams to tell engaging stories that captivate consumers of our news, sports and entertainment content across multiple platforms, including responsive web sites, Google AMP, Facebook Instant Articles and Android and iOS apps. 

The product manager sets the vision and strategy for our storytelling tools. They liaise with editorial teams to understand their workflows and priorities, analyse data to assess user and business value, and work with a cross-functional design and development team to develop and optimise our publishing tools. Key areas of responsibility include our core content management and video publishing systems, integration with other publishing systems, and measurement of editorial efficiency.

Role Responsibility

  • Business acumen and leadership, including ability to make decisions or recommend a course of action to senior managers and stakeholders.

  • Can identify market trends and form a strategy based on user research, data analysis and business objectives.

  • Communicates effectively with editorial staff – listens and empathises, but also represents the views of other stakeholders, especially consumers of our content.

  • Applies structured, logical thinking to address the challenges of scale.

  • Able to analyse and optimise workflows, including measuring the impact of changes.

  • Keen to experiment and make use of agile and lean methodology in a self-organising team.

  • Committed to measuring product performance to evaluate how well the product is serving the purpose it was made for, solving the right problems for users and creating business value.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years in product management, ideally including roles in media companies.

  • Experience with user-centered and hypothesis-driven lean working practices.

  • Track record of taking products or product features from concept to user-facing launch.

  • Experience managing complex, mature products in multi-stakeholder environments.
