Job Introduction

Trinity Mirror plc is seeking to recruit a Trainee Reporter to join the talented team working at the Croydon Advertiser/Surrey Mirror. You will be an ambitious reporter, full of story ideas who is able to create multimedia content that works brilliantly across all of our platforms. This role will focus on innovatively creating new ways to engage with an audience across social media channels.

Where you will be based

Our main office is in Guilford where you will spend some of the week. We also have hot desks in Croydon which can be used when required and the equipment is provided so that reporters can work remotely when suitable.

Role Responsibility

  • Creating compelling content to drive outstanding engagement and build a community online and in print  
  • Responsible for organising content themes, such as geographic areas, campaigns or other areas of interest, as directed by the content desk

  • Demonstrating a variety of ways to tell stories and a portfolio that contains different methods of digital storytelling

  • Implementing creative new ideas that will get your audience talking

  • Knowledge of social media searching tools (i.e. Tweet deck, Geofeedia etc) in addition to traditional journalistic methods for digging out stories

The Ideal Candidate

  • You’ll have a drive to deliver an inspiring content that will engage well with your audience
  • Experience of video and live blogging

  • Possess an in depth knowledge of best practice for live reporting and understand what makes a live blog stand out

  • You’ll ideally hold an NCTJ Journalism pre-entry qualification or equivalent

  • Remain flexible with regards to working hours to suit business needs
