Trinity Mirror is looking for a passionate Trainee Reporter to provide digital-first, high-quality and accurate content for one of its award-winning weekly titles.


Based in Hinckley, you will work for the newspaper's print and web publications. You’ll be a self-starter, a great story-getter and know how to write sparkling, engaging copy. You’ll need to be a creative thinker, be bursting with ideas, like hard work and get a buzz from breaking news. You’ll also need to know how to use social media to engage with readers and promote your stories. 


The position would suit a talented undergraduate looking for their first job or a reporter looking to take the step up to a big weekly newspaper with a strong digital brief to break news and be at the forefront of coverage in its patch.

You’ll have an NCTJ-accredited journalism qualification and will use it to generate content which engages local audiences and meets the standards set by the business in terms of quality, consistency, accuracy and legal compliance.  Oh, and you’ll need a full UK driving licence.



What you'll be doing

In order to succeed in this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, thoroughly-researched, accurate and well-written multimedia content 
  • Write content in a way which engages and drives digital audience 
  • Provide live coverage of news events for live blogs 
  • Shoot video, audio and take pictures when out on jobs
  • Source third-party and social content
  • Build strong contacts for story-gathering within local communities
  • Use social media to build audience and ensure that content is shared on social platforms
  • Possess a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and industry guidelines
